Belted Kingfisher, also known by its scientific name of Megaceryle alcyon, is a large water kingfisher.
The bird features a heavy bill, large head and a shaggy crest. It can grow up to 14 inches in length and can weigh around 170g.
They migrate from Canada and the northern United States to the southern United States, Mexico and Central America in the winter.
You will typically spot it in Fresno, California in the winter perched on a high mark in search of its prey, before it plunges head first for its prey.
